Hong Kongers who have fled/resettled in Britain are finding themselves ideologically clashing with pro-Beijing groups there (as well as left-leaning U.K. groups that back China’s narrative)

This kind of rivalry between mainland Chinese diaspora groups and those from other communities chafing under Beijing’s rule has played out quite frequently in parts of the US and Canada before but it’s been less commonplace in Britain until now.

Since the late 19th century much of Britain’s Chinese community trace their roots to Hong Kong and Guangdong. In the last couple of decades there’s been an increase in mainland, non-Cantonese immigrants who tend to be more ideologically supportive of Beijing.

The London Chinatown Chinese Association, for example, was among about 200 Chinese organisations in the UK which showed support for Hong Kong’s national security law and the “patriots-only reform” via advertisements in Chinese newspapers in Britain.
