Do not miss the detail that survivors of this past summer's wildfire in Lytton, who lost much of their community, are now caring for flood victims, while the government is pointing fingers about how the communities should have prepared for this.
There is something else too:
Big parts of BC's infrastructure have collapsed: bridges, highways, water pumps. But we have the money to rebuild + will. When these extreme weather events happen in poor countries, the infrastructure often never recovers because our governments refuse to pay our climate debts.
The crimes of the wealthy nations - of over-polluting, predatory economics + failing to keep our climate finance pledges - will drive migration, and then migrants will be blamed for daring to live. This should be a wake up call for climate solidarity, here and across borders.
