Hi! The global Jewish population has still not rebounded from the Holocaust. There were 16.6 million Jews in 1939, then 6 million of us were annihilated in a genocide that happened when "It's A Wonderful Life" came out in movie theaters, and now there are 14.8 million of us.

This was not an ancient blip. It was a coordinated systemic annihilation program born out of long-simmering antisemitic acceptance, grounded in the idea Jews are an all-powerful network keeping people down. It is all sounding very familiar!

Today I'm seeing a lot of tweets saying "Why is Kanye ONLY being censored when he comes after Jews?" A. That is conspiracy-mongering. B. One reason is very recent history (Reagan was in his mid-30s) shows us exactly what happens when people go death con 3 on us.

I say this as someone who enormously benefits from white privilege in my day-to-day life, supports a free Palestine, and also happens to always know exactly where my fucking passport is.

My grandma used to say "Every century they make us run for our lives." When they chanted "Jews will not replace us" at Charlottesville we felt it. When they wore Nazi symbols to the Capitol riot we felt it. Jews have always lived in low grade panic. It's why our stomachs are bad!

To the people who thought there were more of us, it's just because our hair takes up so very much space.

For the...let's call them *film buffs* "Well, actually-ing" this thread: "It's A Wonderful Life" was *in production* during the Holocaust. Here are some movies that premiered in theaters before the camps were liberated in 1945: Bambi, Casablanca, and of course, Gaslight.

And if you take nothing else from this thread, let it be this: Lauren Bacall's name was Betty Perske and she, my friends, was a nice Jewish girl from the Bronx.

I do this with my three-year-old when he won't stop using a spoon as a propellor, but you showed me you were not grown up enough to use them correctly or safely and so I have to take away your replies. 💞
