The fact that this man in #Taiwan is sporting a #KevinDurant t-shirt during his #racistrant reveals the contradiction that undergirds a lot of Asia: "We worship #Blackculture, but we hate #Blackpeople" (see thread for English translation) https://t.co/4FxumqO0te
「我歧視黑人」“I discriminate against you, you Black person! Call the cops, it’s a waste of resources, foreigners wasting Taiwanese resources. I look down on you, you foreigner. Don’t think that because you’re a foreigner, I’m afraid of you... If you post this, I will sue you."
Although we experience plenty of kindness here in Taiwan #台灣人的熱情, it's always frustrating when people tell me that "racism in Taiwan isn't as bad as in America" — it just feels like a thinly veiled excuse to not openly discuss the problem at hand.
Ironically, the person in the video is my friend. We both just went on national TV to discuss #antiblackracism. To us, the #racisttirade is not random, but part of a systemic problem. It's not the first time & likely won't be the last. We have our work cut out for us—all of us do
