Our family’s 2021 in a thread:

In January, we moved from our tiny studio to a larger space.

Sabrena started her 2nd fully remote college semester.

I built a PC. https://t.co/p6RP0kCJSP

In February, the clouds lifted and winter was over. Winter is hard for me every year. I finally felt well enough to cycle. Being able to bike from home across the bridge, and to all the parts of the Marin headlands that I love, is something I’m so thankful for. https://t.co/YHRPveJgPn

In March, I started a AI running program. I had been unwell for a few years, and fitness was poor. I started running slowly again to rebuild my base. 14 min/mi felt difficult. I ran everywhere, slowly at first. Even to buy a broom. https://t.co/rfSchlGq3p

In April, the sun was properly back, and was our mood. Our plants and pets thrived. We had picnics. We found the first bubble tea that we didn’t dislike in the Bay Area. https://t.co/4JynSlec5U

In May, we spent 21 days in a hotel quarantine in Singapore. Our marriage was tested in a 200 sq ft space with no windows. I discovered a new favorite chicken stall in Chinatown. We ate as much kaya toast as we could. Also, bureaucratic nonsense. https://t.co/EUe2PM4cWV https://t.co/JF9D7NmVS9

In June, we went hiking in parks in Singapore with my parents (for the first time). There was prata. Delta raged on. I said goodbye to my childhood home knowing it’d be the last I’d see of it. I said bye to all the hawkers in my hawker centre before I left. Leaving is bittersweet https://t.co/Z5MBLLGibl

In July, there were tomatoes. Lots of tomatoes. Other firsts: Mila started a new routine of sitting on me in the morning. I complied. We started making nasi lemak. https://t.co/SGyAE8PjGV

In August, I hiked, camped and ate camping food out of the bag for the first time. Scrambled down a waterfall that was completely dry. Pitched a tent. Walked. A lot. Sometimes with this smiley dog (who only likes walking in cities). Saw a beautiful part of Northern California. https://t.co/jQpzlcjT77

In September, I went to Yosemite. I saw a bunch of rocks. Some of the most beautiful rocks in the world. https://t.co/Y6wLJVecws

Still in September: somehow, I felt well enough to hike 10 hours a day for several days. To get on a bunch of rocks. To see other rocks. Some of them are famous. Like Half Dome. And Clouds Rest. Also, I love my tent! I love tents. https://t.co/DIqBbzkW6l

In October: I took a cool picture of Cookie, watched System of a Down with @printtemps, got light therapy glasses. Oh, and I turned 36. Yay! https://t.co/ywkWaeNRbb

Sometime in October: I stopped drinking!

In November, we went to LA!! First time. We accidentally stayed at the home of a band member of a well known ‘90s band. @sabcatsilver discovered a deep love for Tijuana style tacos. We ate so many tacos. We brought Cookie. https://t.co/DxRdj0rWOt

In December, cuddles and soup. Lots of rain too.

I still run. I am still sober. I am healthy. Next year, I hope to climb more mountains and complete a half marathon.

I love my job. I love my little family. I love life. I am happy and loved. I am thankful. https://t.co/vpWzdZNaUL
