As some of you know, I grew up evangelical Christian and I’ve been hearing since the 90s, since I was conscious, that ‘we’ were going to take over every sphere of influence in the world, everywhere, before the world ends and Jesus returns. So none of this surprises me. But

It sucks.

I don’t feel like I can have meaningful conversations with people in those communities. Even the less rabid ones. There is so little interrogation of the harms that that specific religious strain has caused. There’s no room for it, even.

Mainline Protestants aren’t protesting either, this utter misrepresentation of their faith by a heretical, power hungry cult. Any power for Christianity must be good for them, right? Or don’t criticize your brother, keep it all in the family? It’s disappointing.

Like in any cult, there is a pervasive belief that the means justify the ends. If you can’t even talk to a ‘moderate’ about how the ends—a Christo-fascist theocracy—are Not Good, then they aren’t very moderate, and they don’t care about the means either.
