Working in a Florida hospital and number of COVID cases in the ward have tripled in last one week.

My dialysis patient who was FULLY vaccinated has COVID pneumonia in both lungs bc dialysis pts are immunocompromised and don’t mount the same response to the vaccine you and I might.

This surge is bc of 2 reasons:

1. Delta variant

The Delta variant (orig found in India) is abt 4 times as transmissible as the Alpha variant (orig found in the UK). ‘Vaccine escape’ of this variant is higher than others.

Correction: The Delta variant has a 50% transmissibility advantage over the apha variant (not 4 times as transmissible) and double that of the wild type Sars-COVID19 variant (the original), making its transmissibility comparable to Smallpox.
